The FDA is gearing up to ban brominated vegetable oil, known as BVO, in food due to safety concerns. This follows studies indicating potential health risks from BVO consumption.
The National Institutes of Health played a key role in these studies, highlighting the dangers of BVO in our diets. As a result, companies like PepsiCo and Coca-Cola are removing BVO from their drinks. Despite its ban in other countries, BVO is still present in some American beverages.
Evidence against BVO includes a study that showed it could damage various organs in pigs. More recent findings in 2022 linked BVO to thyroid issues and accumulation in the heart, liver, and fat tissues.
